ABSTRACT The study examined the effects of punishment on students' discipline in Kampala central urban council. Its objectives were to find out the level of punishments in secondary schools, the level of discipline in secondary schools and to establish how punishments impacts on students' discipline. The study used a descriptive research design to describe issue relating to punishments, discipline; the study population included the students, the teachers and head teachers in the secondary schools. Simple random sampling and purposive sampling procedures were used in the study to obtain a sample of 134respondents from the study population. Data was collected from both primary and secondary sources using key informant interviews and interview guides. Data was analyzed qualitatively in themes that reflect the study objectives. The study found out punishments were being caused by late comings, disrespect of teachers, misbehaving, absenteeism and peer group influences amongst students. This indiscipline resulted into much suspens10n, punishing of children and missing of the classes amongst students. Therefore the study recommended that the government and teachers to step up their efforts to educate the students on how to respect their teachers and to fellow students to have education
